Swing Set Sculpting
So there I was minding my own business reading Septembers issue of Shape and I turn to the Workout of the Month and it's a playground workout! How cool!

They explained that using a slide and swing for familiar toners engages more muscle groups than doing them on the flat ground.

Karen Asp, article author, writes, "Crank these moves midway through a run"... Ok! Don't need to tell me twice :). I didn't do the exact workout, because the park I went to didn't have all of the amenities, but I did make up my own :).
1 mile run
10 Sets:
3x Pull Ups
10x Push-ups
15 Squats
21 Flutter kicks.
1 mile run
It was great! And my little guy loved it! This workout gets your heart rate up, works your back, lats and biceps (pull ups); pecs and triceps (push ups); glutes and quads (squats) and your ABS and hip flexors (flutter kicks).
Phew!
The beauty of this workout, too, is that you are continually switching from a vertical move to a horizontal one; making your heart work really hard to pump blood to all of the different muscle groups. This forces your heart rate go up because you are continuously changing what muscle group you are working in. Cool beans!
It's always harder, yet better to multi task! Right?! Where are all those moms at?!!!

I used to be self conscious about doing these workouts on the playground, but I try to creatively make it fun and interactive with my little (ie he helps me count, does squats, goes down the slide while I do push-ups etc), which is super fun. And I just learned to not really care.

And today I actually heard a little girl say, "I wish my mom worked out like that!"
I'm the mom of a toddler, so to hear an older kid say that was eye opening for me. They actually do look up to you and notice what you are doing more than I thought!
