Making Home Workouts Fun

Playground workouts are great, but I don't generally use those as my primary workout means. For better or worse, the residual Army in me still need to get in a work out very soon after waking. I've done it for so long it's ingrained!
If you know me or have seen my facebook page, you know I am a big fan of Beachbody workouts. Those are usually my main means of working out in the morning. It's perfect. I don't have to leave the house, Quint can carry on, mastering the best way to create incredible messes, the workouts are GREAT and I've found a way to trick him in to thinking working out is fun! By trick, I mean skillfully involve... Winning all around!
It's really not that hard. I used to think him bothering me, asking me to finish, wanting to play with me was annoying, but then I got to thinking, it's actually really sweet. He just wants to actively spend time with me and I should be really grateful, because I know it won't last forever!

So I started to invent ways to involve him. One of my favorite workouts is Insanity. They do all sorts of crazy moves and one that I really loathe (but love at the same time...) is the Frog Jump. It comes at the end of the sequence, when you're already exhausted. So annoying.
Anyhow, you squat down with your hands touching the inside of your ankles, jump forward, lifting your arms in the air for momentum, land in a squat, put your hands inside your legs touching your ankle and immediately repeat, jumping backwards. Yes, it is as terrible (and awesome) as it sounds. So I was doing those one day and Quint picked up his mini soccer ball and tried to roll it in between my legs as I jumped.

Genius! It's kind of a game for us now, he loves it, and it helps pass the time during this terrible (yet awesome) move. I'm not saying you can interact at every move with the kiddos, but if you involve them every now and again, it really goes a long way. And it's pretty fun! You should try it, you might enjoy it yourself :).
